I have a dyadic anima. I know a few men who do. All share a sort of issue with their mothers...typically a neglectful, hateful or just otherwise unavailable mother. Typically, in my own dreams and those of my friends they are a split between light and dark animas. At the beginning of my analysis these were often amalgamated into a single dream character.... sometimes teasing and playful and other times scornful and cruel. Almost always unavailable and rarely making consistent appearances. During the course of analysis, i gradually identified a core issue as a negative mother complex leading to CPTSD then i understood that one of my central tasks was to parse apart my anima from that of my negative mother complex. Over time, this single character morphed into a light anima and a dark anima. I assumed this to mean that the light was the Sophia image and the dark was the isis soulful earth woman. Since my given path was one of down rather than up (Hillman's vales rather than peaks)...a path of one of ensoulment and embodiment (as opposed to spiritual enlightenment or wisdom/knowledge)...i assumed that the dark would be the anima and therefore represent the embodied path...esp since i had a marked real world attraction to dark haired women.... however in my own case since my mother was a dark haired woman it took me years to understand that this assumption was the wrong one. In my own case, the light anima represented the path of ensoulment (anima) and that dark was the negative mother complex. That was in year seven. So all this to say that if you're dealing with this be open to different possibilities. Might save you some time.

I think in American society, the initiation is sometimes religious/cultural (confirmation, bar/bat mitzvah, and quinceañera), but it is more often in college in Greek Life and in drinking parties and pregames. I think that's where masculinity and femininity are taught and passed down

I have always studied and venerated a lot of dark goddesses and I really think that we are getting so far away from the dark feminine archtype.
